Angels and Demons is sure to evoke some serious soul searching of every listener to this fantastically narrated audio book. From the thought provoking questions of how the earth, galaxy, and human race just magically appeared out of nothing in a mere split second of time, to what’s next for religion, science, technology, and mother earth.
Although first published in 2000, Brown does an outstanding job bringing futuristic ideas right into focus, especially when listened to now in the wake of the current events of the CERN corporation and their famed Super Collider.
Take a world-renowned symbologist, Robert Langdon, the head of CERN, a control-freak, whose reach is far and wide, and the tantalizing Vittoria Vetra, then mix in a 400 year old stand off between two very powerful groups and you have the makings for a fast moving, plot twisting, revenge induced sci-fi/mystery novel of the decade.
Angels and Demons starts out as CERN hiring Langdon as the chief investigator in a murder case they would prefer to keep out of the public eye. Langdon is targeted because of his past work in symbology and in particular, his work with the symbologies of the secret underground group called the Illuminati.
The Illuminati mostly consist of scientists who date all the way back to Galileo’s time. They since have infiltrated banks, Masonic Lodges, Security forces, churches, and the Vatican itself.
The Vatican has always tried to keep Science silent so they could paint their own picture of God, the past and the beginning of time, sometimes at the expense of their own believers.
Enter in CERN and the new Anti-Matter they developed which is 100 times more powerful than rocket fuel, and now scientists and the Vatican alike become forced to show both their hands. Not only what they are capable of, what they have kept secret for years, but also to address what is still unknown.
Brown does just a phenomenal job detailing the layout of Rome with all the famous landmarks, churches, tunnels, and architecture. You will feel like you have personally visited Rome with intimate details of the Vatican interior structures and the culture of the Catholic Church.
Brown’s research for Angels and Demons was extensive, you can find out more about the minute details and unique ways he garnered his information with this personal interview of Dan Brown on the writing of Angels and Demons. Brown’s tenacity, attention to detail, and realism, along with Richard Poe’s incredible narration makes this audio book a first class thriller that hits close to home. Not to be missed!

The hype about Dan Brown is not unfounded. I loved every minute of this audiobook The book is well written and the pace of the storyline with its twists & turns kept me riveted throughout. As an avid reader of traditional hard copy books I was surprised how quickly I began to enjoy the full audiobook experience. Set in Italy with its beautiful architecture lends itself perfectly to the audiobook format where you easily become completely immersed in the storyline. One not to be missed! |
