The audio book, Get Organized the Clear and Simple Way, is a fantastic compilation of 8 audio cds that break down into steps how to organize anything from the smallest project such as cleaning out your purse, to the largest project such as cleaning out the garage or basement.
Marla Dee is the owner of a professional organizing company that serves both businesses and homes as a personal organizer and consultant. She is the creator of the Clear and Simple System, which she uses to help people get their homes and offices organized, eliminating clutter and stress, thus bringing joy and peace back to their lives.
You will learn the See It, Map It, Do It way of the Clear and Simple System. It's truly amazing but if you follow the steps she outlines so nicely, you will be able to organize even the largest of projects! What's even better is the STACKS method that is a part of the system.
STACKS is an acronym for Sort, Toss, Assign, Contain, Keep it up, Simplify. So with the STACKS system you first are going to sort your stuff, then your going to decide what to keep and what to toss. Once you know what you're keeping, then you need to assign it a space, and within that space you need to contain it in some sort of container. Once you assign a home and contain it, you need a system for maintaining the item and making sure it gets back to its home after use. Simplify is for simplifying your life, your systems, your stuff.
The audio CDs of Get Organized the Clear and Simple Way have a tremendous amount of references for great resources including the best containers and where to find them. I love the fact that Marla Dee takes the time to spell out the web addresses so you're not left at guessing the spelling or trying to do a search yourself.
Throughout the whole process, Marla Dee does a great job of realizing the emotional aspects of holding onto stuff from your past whether it be from your childhood or inherited stuff from your parents. She actually dedicates a whole CD to the toss step because it is such an emotional step that many people can't get past. I like how she gives empathy and understanding and then constructive ways and ideas to move forward.
Marla Dee and this audio book have given me new inspiration and hope for several organizing projects I have for myself both large and small. I think I'll take her advice and start with the small ones though before I tackle the big one of the basement!

At the time of this review, she is charging $1500 per hour for her services, and you can listen to her personally for 8 hours for under $30. Now that's a bargain!
