The Truth is a political satire deliberating all the finer points of the 2000 and 2004 presidential campaigns. He looks into both the Republican and Democratic parties to dissect what went wrong, and how we as a nation are now suffering because of lies, mis-truths, and quest for personal satisfaction and vindication.
Al Franken along with his superior research team do what they do best in this audio book: debunk point-by-point all the allegations and accusations that are continuously being spread by right-wing pundits. Franken, who got his start on Saturday Night Live has a wickedly sly sense of humor which he uses advantageously throughout the book to get his points acknowledged.
This audio book is far superior to the printed bound book because you as a listener can thoroughly enjoy Franken's comedic delivery as only he can deliver it sober and straight-faced, but with a definite sting. Another bonus for listening to the audio book is that Franken provides the actual live sound clips allowing you as a listener to hear George W. stumble over his words, while Sean Hannity and Rush Limbaugh bluster and then Zell Miller contradict himself. Franken is such a great mimic that listeners will find it hard to tell which Karl Rove and Dick Cheney sound bites are real and which ones are Franken's dead-on impersonations.
Franken certainly does not do any fence jumping here. He is straight and true to his values and he sticks with them through thick and thin. Just like the title, all he is after is the truth, and if the facts don’t add up, well then let the BS fall where it may.
While Republicans might think he is against them, and Democrats might think he’s not quite on their side, he does a good job of pointing out the facts that reflect the flawed thinking of both parties. Franken’s summary at the end is actually a memoir to his grandchildren summarizing what the issues were throughout the 2000 and 2004 presidential debates and his view of how the world might be in the future if the right choices are made for the 2008 presidential election. Certainly a book you will want to read and ponder before casting your vote for the 2008 presidential election.
